What type of work do you do?

I have been in the marketing industry for over 20 years so I have pretty much done it all when it comes to design, advertising and marketing – whether it is offline or online. Specifically I work on:

  • New Website Design & Development
  • Existing Web Analysis & Optimization
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Search Engine Marketing
  • Social Media Marketing (Facebook Marketing, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Google+)
  • Lead Generation

  • Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Advertising (AdWords Management)
  • Google Analytics Results & Analysis
  • Graphic Design of Brochures, Flyers, Business Cards, Signage etc…

Do you charge by project, by the hour, as a monthly fee?

I have a variety of services that I offer but for most of them I charge a small deposit up-front and then a monthly fee for ongoing management and maintenance of that service. The reason I do this is because online advertising, digital marketing, search engine optimization, social media management, Adwords management etc…demand monthly attention. If you do not keep your content fresh and up-to-date you will not see results. In addition, I recommend a minimum of a yearly commitment for our work together because building an online presence and brand can take at least that long. In some cases I will take on clients for a shorter period of time but it is on a case-by-case basis. The goal is always to get you results and because I have been doing this for so long, I know for a fact that it takes time.

There are some projects that I will charge an hourly rate for. Those are things like print projects (brochures, flyers, presentations, business cards etc..). For that type of work, I will provide an estimate ahead of time based on how many hours I think the project will take. Things like printing costs, stock photography or any other needs beyond my actual time will be quoted as separate line items so you can see the whole expected cost.

Is your first consultation free?

The first time we sit down is always free. I have to learn about your business and meet you so we can mutually decide if we would work well together and if I  can provide you with what you need. If I don’t think I can help you, I will tell you and then try to offer you a suggestion of who CAN help you.

I don’t have a lot of time, can we talk over the phone or Skype?

Of course! We can do whatever is easiest for you for our initial meeting or throughout our business relationship. The only think I expect from you is that you respect my time as well and try to give me as much notice as possible if you cannot make a meeting or call.

What if I don’t like something you’ve done for me?

It’s inevitable that in every relationship (business and personal) there’s going to come a time when we disagree on an idea, approach or solution. It’s just life, and I’ve found that a healthy discussion about the situation almost always ends up in a better end result.

I have a lot of marketing experience, but you know your business, so if we work together and keep the communication open and honest we’ll undoubtedly have success.

What is your process?

How I work is that we must first meet to discuss your needs. As I mentioned above, we can do this in person (preferred), or via telephone, Skype, FaceTime etc…

While I am always open to doing one project for you. Ideally I like to learn much more about your business, including what your business goals are and how we can improve your bottom line. As someone who has had P&L responsibility in a large corporation and in my own brick-and-mortar I know that numbers rule. If you are not making money, you will not be in business long.

So, the bottom line for me is that while I can help with one project, I am best utilized as a long-term partner that can help you with all of your marketing needs.

Think of it this way. If I were a Physician I would be the one that would look at the whole body, not just one symptomatic area.

I was thinking of hiring an advertising or online agency to handle my work. Why would I chose you over a larger company?

I have worked for two agencies in my 20+ years of marketing. One was a traditional ad agency and one was an online ad agency. Here’s what I can tell you about agencies based on working in them AND hiring them when I worked for other companies.

First, I have to tell you that I actually felt guilty working in the agencies I worked for because I knew how much our clients were being overcharged because most of the employees needed to justify their jobs. Did you know that in most agencies you are charged any time anyone even touches your job? So even if your project just grazed someone’s desk for 2 minutes you are charged a minimum of 15 minutes of their hourly rate.

A typical project in an agency goes through this many hands. An Account Manager, Project Manager, Creative Director, Graphic Designer and/or Web Designer, Content Specialist or Copywriter, and Bookkeeper. That’s at the every minimum! In most cases each of these people have a bill rate of $150 or more. Can you hear the cash register tallying and your invoice going up?

For most small to medium sized businesses, an agency can be crippling. There just isn’t enough disposable marketing budget to justify this huge expense when in fact you can get just as good and often better results with an independent contractor.
